Rudraksha is actually a seed which is derived from Elaeocarpus Ganitrus tree. These trees majorly grow in India and Nepal. However, they are also found in countries like Myanmar, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Madagascar, etc. The word Rudraksha is made of two different words 'Rudra' (one of the many names of Bhagavan Shiva) and 'Aksha' (teardrops). Thus, Rudraksh literally means 'Tears of Bhagavan Shiva'. As per Shiva Purana, they are believed to have originated from the eyes of the Mahadev Himself in the form of tears. After this, the Rudraksha bead or Rudraksha mala should be kept in front of a Shiva Linga. Rub the havan ash on it. Then, face the east or north direction chanting the mantra ' Om Namah Shivaya' direction and wear it. It can be worn in a silver or golden chain and also in a red thread.

Eating non-veg and consumption of alcohol is prohibited while wearing Rudraksha.
It should be cleaned in every 6 months.
It should not be worn during births or deaths.
