Rudraksha is actually a seed which is derived from Elaeocarpus Ganitrus tree. These trees majorly grow in India and Nepal. However, they are also found in countries like Myanmar, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, the Philippines, Madagascar, etc. The word Rudraksha is made of two different words 'Rudra' (one of the many names of Bhagavan Shiva) and 'Aksha' (teardrops). Thus, Rudraksh literally means 'Tears of Bhagavan Shiva'. As per Shiva Purana, they are believed to have originated from the eyes of the Mahadev Himself in the form of tears. Because of their association with Bhagavan Shiva, they are considered to be extremely sacred. They carry phenomenal powers that help seekers in their spiritual progress.
Rudraksha is widely used for worshipping Lord Shiva. People resort to many ways to find solutions for their problems. Some of them chant holy mantras while others take the help of gemstones. Likewise, many people wear Rudraksha in the form of Rudraksha Mala for physical, mental and spiritual healing. A person is able to experience the sacred bead’s positive effects within 40 days of wearing it.
Rudraksha beads range from 1 to 21 Faces or Mukhis. The commonly found beads are 1 to 14 Mukhis. Apart from them, Ganesha Rudraksha, Garbh Gauri Rudraksha and Gauri Shankar Rudraksha are other noteworthy Rudraksha. Each Rudraksha Has Its Own Ruling God, Ruling Planet and Beej Mantra.
Monday is the best day to wear a Rudraksha. However, wearing it on the days of Purnima, Sankranti or Amavasya is also considered very auspicious. Before wearing a Rudraksha, it is always good to purify it by performing some auspicious rituals. It should be cleansed with panchamrit - yogurt, milk, honey, ghee, tulsi (Indian holy basil). After this, the Rudraksha bead or Rudraksha mala should be kept in front of a Shiva Linga. Rub the havan ash on it. Then, face the east or north direction chanting the mantra ' Om Namah Shivaya' direction and wear it. It can be worn in a silver or golden chain and also in a red thread.
Be it a sage, hermit or a family man. Rudraksha is one such holy thing that can be worn by anyone. However, there are few rules to know before wearing it.
